Not Me, But You: My Journey of Service, Growth, and Purpose

They say true fulfillment comes not from what we gain, but from what we give. My time at NSS Gargi Extension has been a beautiful reminder of this truth. What started as an opportunity to contribute to society soon became a transformative journey—one that shaped my perspective, strengthened my resolve, and deepened my understanding of community service.

The Beginning: A Step Towards Change

When I first joined NSS Gargi, I was excited yet unsure of what lay ahead. With 120 devoted volunteers led by a passionate Program Officer, our team thrived on the belief that service is a responsibility, not just an activity. Every event, every initiative, and every moment spent working with the community reinforced the power of selflessness.

Beyond Words: Action That Speaks

At NSS Gargi, we didn’t just talk about change—we worked towards it. From awareness camps on menstruation hygiene, mental health, and plastic disposal to uplifting underprivileged children, every effort was aimed at building a more informed and compassionate society.

One of the most memorable experiences was organizing the Swachhta Pakhwada clean-up drive, where we created jute and handmade paper bags, promoting eco-conscious living. Another was launching an e-waste donation program, reinforcing the importance of sustainability. These activities were not just events; they were lessons in responsibility and impact.

Moments That Left an Imprint

Among the many initiatives, the Diwali Mela—“ZISTATVA” held a special place in my heart. Watching NGOs showcase their products, generating revenue for their causes, was a testament to the power of collective support. This year, ensuring travel expenses for underprivileged students so they could perform on stage made the event even more meaningful. Seeing their joy, confidence, and talent shine was a moment I will cherish forever.

The Blood Donation Camp was another profound experience. Witnessing students, faculty, and non-faculty members come forward to donate blood, knowing that each contribution could save a life, was a powerful reminder of how small actions can create lasting impact.

More Than Service: A Learning Experience

At NSS Gargi, we didn’t just volunteer—we grew. Whether it was through poetry, essay writing, and poster-making competitions on social issues or leading initiatives that aligned with our motto, “Not Me, But You”, we learned that true service is about prioritizing others before ourselves.

I discovered humility in the smallest acts of kindness, strength in teamwork, and purpose in every effort, no matter how small. I realized that service is not a duty but a privilege, and that true leadership is about uplifting others.

Carrying the Spirit Forward

NSS Gargi Extension has not only given me the opportunity to serve but has instilled in me a lifelong commitment to social responsibility. The experiences, the people, and the lessons will always remain close to my heart.

Because at the end of the day, service is not about recognition—it’s about impact. It’s about standing up, stepping forward, and making a difference. And that is something I will carry with me, always. ❤️
